Phone number to listen to campaign memories about this space:
All days audio – A. Sparks:
777 Raymond Avenue was the second home of the Obama campaign in 2008, the campaign was initially based in the Wright building (pictured below), which has been home to many campaigns and candidates. I have listed those campaigns and candidates whom I could find out about on the wayfinding map and on the Irrigate project map. I remember the Raymond office as an observer, living in the nearby Carleton Artist Lofts, I passed by on my bicycle everyday. This office was a hive of activity and it seemed like an incredibly vibrant place. Post election, that energy dispersed quickly, the office was cleared out and empty within 2 or 3 days as I recall and the shop returned to being an empty shell. Later on the space became the Sacred Paths Center for the local pagan community, the organization closed in May 2012. 777 Raymond is soon to open as a new arts organization called Driftwood Community Arts.
When I recently visited the new-ish Obama For America office on Selby Avenue I was happy to find they had a freshly painted mural. This is a really nice touch at the Obama offices, creating a bright inviting atmosphere for visitors. Here is a time-lapse video of an Obama office mural, created in late 2011 for the regional campaign headquarters at 2722 University Ave SE (detecting the pattern here, University is a popular spot, whether in Minneapolis or in Saint Paul!).
